Local developers Eric and Karen Maurer, recently purchased three buildings on West Michigan Ave in downtown Ypsilanti located between Bombadill's Coffee House and TC's Bar and Grill.  The Maurers own several other building along East Michigan Ave that they have successfully converted into retail and loft spaces.  They plan to do the same type of conversion with their new purchases.  Top floors are typically converted into lofts while bottom floors remain retail space. They plan to begin work this summer on 12 new loft spaces and first floor retail is this location.  The Downtown development authority is thrilled because the Maurers have a reputation for quality development and attention to retaining historic structural detail.  The buildings purchased are the only structures left in the downtown area that have not seen any improvements in more than 20 years. The location was originally known for housing the Dawson Lumber Company and the Mack and Mack Furniture Store.
