Our Dexter MI Chamber dinner at the Knights of Columbus was held Jan 21.  Thanks to the Finks for hosting the event and Sandy and Steve Varney of The Lighthouse Restaurant for catering the delicious meal.  We were delighted to hear a guest singer this year on behalf of the upcoming opening of the Encore Theatre.   Jessica Grove who has a list of Broadway credentials sang Somewhere Over The Rainbow.  Not surprising that her performance was perfect since she had performed in New York alongside Mickie Rooney.   Opening night Feb 5th is sold out.  Tickets for Evita are available through Feb 15th. Chamber President, Joe Nowak presented the Awards:

  • Past Board Members Recognition to John Evans, Jane Finkbeiner, Jill Love
Assisting with the presentations was Michigan Representative Pam Byrnes and County Commissioner’s son Mark Ouimet. Membership remained strong this year and the Dexter plans for the Border-to-Border Trail Connection, Hudson Mills Metropark to Village of Dexter, were made available.  This was provided by a Transportation Enhancement Grant.   The proposed pedestrian underpass will connect to the Mill Pond Park Project currently under construction on Main Street. As a side note, I got to sit and enjoy dinner with the folks at LaFontaine Motors and really enjoyed hearing about their camaraderie and record sale year! I am very confident that Tom Diab will bring the entertainment to Dexter on Friday evenings like Sites and Sounds in Chelsea to boost traffic to downtown Dexter, MI during the summer.  We fellow business owners and community participants look forward to a healthy and happy 2009.  If you want to see the HGTV video on Dexter, just call us for a copy.  We would LOVE to show you Dexter!
