Looking for something to do with the family, your friends, or thinking of where to host the next office barbecue? Located on the corner of Jackson and Stadium, Veterans Memorial Park (fondly known as Vet’s Park), is a public recreational sight that is used all year around for swimming, baseball, softball, ice skating, sledding and much, much more.
The swimming pool offers a shallow kids area, with plenty of water play equipment, a 125 foot slide, open swims, lap lanes and can also be rented for private parties. Throughout the month of July, Vet’s also offers extra activities, such as water balloons, on Saturday nights, and is great entertainment for the kids. There are also swimming lessons offered, and of course, the pool is supervised by certified lifeguards.
The ice arena is open from mid September to mid May every year and offers open skating. Ice skates are available for rent, but those who are more experienced are welcome to bring their own skates. There are also several hockey teams that can be joined, ranging from beginners to leagues with experienced players.
The facility also boasts a clean, friendly fitness center with the options of single day fees, weekly, monthly and even yearly memberships, at reasonable prices.
Along with all organized recreational activities offered at Vet’s Park, there is a shelter with a grill and picnic tables that can be rented for family affairs, sports teams or any other get together you might have planned. The baseball diamonds are lit at night, hosting night time games, while the tennis courts are open during day time hours. There’s even a play structure to take the kids to, and with sledding in the winter, Veterans Memorial Park is the perfect place to have a great time with your family and friends any time of the year.
Founded in 1971, Vet’s Park’s facilities are now supervised by Dennis Simon and Jason Nealis
