Despite the rumors that the Ann Arbor People's Food Co-op was considering a location move, they intend to stay put at their North Fourth Avenue location. According to marketing manager, Kevin Sharp, there is talk of adding a new location but there was never any intention to leave the old space. The Co-op's board has been toying with expansion for quite a while now which could potentially lead to the addition of a new location. They are currently assessing the best way to meet members needs and potential improvements they might make.
The Liberty Lofts retail space had been mentioned at one time as a potential new location, but there is no set timeline for a decision.
The Ann Arbor People's Food Co-op is the only community-owned grocery store in the area. Currently 6,000 members belong to the cooperative natural foods store and cafe. Anyone can join for a $60 investment. Members have a say in how the business is run and receive benefits such as special promos or even food rebates in a profitable year.
