Ann Arbor getDowntown Commuter Challenge
Thursday, April 16, 2009
This year's getDowntown Commuter Challenge is about to begin! Each May several Ann Arbor organizations get into the healthy spirit of competition and sign up for the commuter challenge. This is a month-long competition which encourages individuals to use sustainable transportation to get to work. Participants get healthy AND reduce the city's carbon emissions for the month. Organizations compete by logging sustainable commutes into the getDowntown website. Employees can log in to see calories burned, miles logged and carbon emissions reduced individually and overall for their organization. Common sustainable methods of transport might be: walking, biking, taking the bus or car pooling to work!
Organizations can sign up for the challenge online through the end of April at the getDowntown website. Prizes will be awarded to the organizations who demonstrate goals accomplished, most miles logged and most carbon dioxide emissions reduced. The organization with the most average points per employee in their category will win. Need a little more motivation? Check out the prizes and awards.
This wonderful community event brings citizens together and is one of many steps to creating a greener Ann Arbor!
