The Ann Arbor Airport is expanding as part of a $2.5 million improvement project.  New buildings are slated to begin opening in the next few months as the project nears finish.  Six new hangars are set to open in January and a new maintenance shed will open in the Spring of 2009.  With the addition of the new hangars, the airport will have 154 total hangars that can accommodate smaller planes and private jets.  The new hangars will be able to house planes with wingspans of up to sixty feet. The new maintenance shed will replace the existing 4,000 sqft structure.  The old structure is not large enough to hold all of the airport equipment and is not equipped with water or sewer.  The new 7,700 sqft structure will meet all these needs. This is the first renovation to the Ann Arbor Airport since the late seventies/ early eighties.  The $2.5 million project is being funded almost entirely by State of Michigan and federal grants.  The airport will also subsidize with bonds that they hope to pay back with revenues.  We are looking forward to the new improvements!
