The City of Ann Arbor has opened the doors to receive bids for the 415 Washington Street parcel.  The invitation encourages re-use of the two-story building on-site and calls attention to necessary storm water management.  Development objectives outlined include:
  • Clearly defined public benefits such as space for civic events
  • Public greenway linkage
  • Flood risk mitigation
  • Environmental concerns and energy efficiency
  • Historic preservation
Two community groups have already expressed interest in the site: The Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor and the Ann Arbor Arts Center.  While Kiwanis has no clear plans, the Art Center has offered many ideas.  They'd like to re-use the building and garage to house a gallery, studio and office space as well as public events, artist workshops and a small park with greenway through the property. The city plans to seek fair market value for the property.  Proceeds are likely planned for the city's general fund which may go toward a new police and court facility.
